Before beginning any deck and porch repair work, we thoroughly assess the condition of the wood. A careful inspection helps identify signs of rot, loose fasteners, and structural weakness. If the deck design allows, we inspect the underside to evaluate the stability of the supporting structure. Any rotten boards must be replaced, and adjacent components checked to ensure the rot hasn’t spread.

The next step is to remove all damaged boards and fasteners and replace them with new materials.

Depending on what type of coating was previously used (such as water-repellent finishes or oil-based paints), we select appropriate cleaning products. Usually, this involves a liquid cleaner, a hose, a stiff brush, and sanding tools to fully remove the old coating.

If the wood is affected by mold, we treat it with specialized anti-mold solutions or alkali cleaners before rinsing and continuing. Thorough rinsing is crucial before moving on.

We then determine what kind of protective finish should be applied - such as water- and UV-resistant sealants, paints, or varnishes. Once selected, we apply a primer followed by the chosen finish. It’s critical to treat not only the surfaces but also the board ends, cracks, and joints - this helps prevent future rot and extends the life of your deck for years to come.

For new deck and porch installations, we recommend finishing the boards before installation. Alternatively, composite materials can be used for enhanced durability - they come pre-treated and protected from all sides.
