Stages of Deck Repair Work

Before proceeding with the repair process, you should assess the condition of the wood flooring. Careful inspection is designed to identify the presence of rotten areas, weakening of fasteners. If the design of the decks allows - you should look under the flooring, evaluate the stability of the structures. All rotten boards must be replaced with new ones, at the same time check if the rot has spread to neighboring elements.

The next step is to remove all rotten boards and mounts and change them to new ones.

Depending on what composition the wooden surface was treated with, the means for cleaning it are chosen. Most often, water-repellent compositions and oil-based paints are used. In order to effectively remove the obsolete coating, you will need a liquid cleaner, a hose, a brush and a grinding tool.

If the wood flooring has been exposed to mold, it should be treated with a special anti-mold agent, as well as alkali, if necessary, before cleaning. Then rinse thoroughly.

Next, we determine what the surface will be covered with. These can be impregnations to protect against moisture and the sun, or paints or varnishes. Depending on the chosen staining, we start applying the primer and then paint, varnish or impregnation. It is very important to process the side ends of the boards, cracks and joints. This will help protect the wood from rotting for years to come.
For new decks and decks, we recommend finishing the boards before they are installed. Or use composite materials instead of wood. Then all surfaces are protected from all sides, and not just from above.
