Built-in Cabinet for Books and Board Games
A custom built-in cabinet designed to beautifully organize books, figurines, and board games while feeling like a natural part of the home.
Project Description:
“It’s as if he’s always been here,” says the owner of the house. The whole family loved the new storage system. All the books, figurines and board games now have a place. This closet is a work of art!
Overview
This custom carpentry project by Triangle Repairs LLC demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform underutilized space into a stunning functional focal point. Located in the heart of the Triangle area (Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill), we created a floor-to-ceiling bookcase and storage unit tailored to the unique architectural lines of the client's home.
The Design Process: From 3D Model to Reality
Every great build starts with a clear vision. To ensure the client was 100% confident in the layout, our visualizer developed a detailed 3D model. This allowed us to perfect the geometry of the shelving where it meets the staircase angle. Seeing the digital twin of the project beforehand ensured that the scale and proportions were exactly what the homeowner imagined.
Craftsmanship & Materials
Once the design was approved, our team moved to the construction phase:
Solid Wood Construction: The entire internal structure and shelving were handcrafted from solid pine wood, chosen for its durability and superior finish compared to mass-produced materials.
Seamless Integration: The unit was built in-place, meticulously scribed to the walls and staircase for a true "built-in" look.
Professional Finish: To achieve a modern, airy feel, the unit underwent a multi-stage finishing process—sanding, priming, and several coats of professional-grade white paint to match the home’s existing aesthetic.
Special Features: Storage & Style
The final result is a versatile storage hub designed for the modern family:
Custom Storage: The open shelving now houses a curated collection of books, family photo albums, board games, and decorative figurines.
Handle-less "Push-to-Open" Doors: Per the client’s request for a clean, minimalist aesthetic, the lower cabinets feature a sleek push-to-open mechanism. By eliminating handles and knobs, we achieved a smooth, uninterrupted surface that blends perfectly with the wall.
Maximized Space: We utilized the awkward space under the stairs to provide deep, organized storage for larger items while keeping the living area clutter-free.
