Project Description:
Custom-built-in cabinets and shelves were installed in the niches on both sides of the fireplace, with wood paneling added above to complete the look. The challenge was to achieve the appearance of massive natural wood shelving while using more cost-effective materials.
Through smart design and craftsmanship, all doors and shelves were fabricated in-house, using a hidden fastening system, followed by painting and decorative pattern finishing. Elegant, budget-conscious solutions often require more effort - and this project is proof. The client is happy, and the result speaks for itself.
Project Stages: Custom Fireplace Transformation
Preparation & Electrical Setup The project began with structural preparation of the fireplace alcoves. We integrated specialized wiring behind the wall to provide a clean, cord-free setup for a future television mount above the mantel.
Custom Shiplap Installation To create a modern focal point, we installed a custom shiplap accent wall from floor to ceiling. The wood was precisely cut to fit the fireplace surround, creating a textured backdrop for the entire unit.
Floating Shelf Craftsmanship The highlight of the project is the custom floating shelving. To achieve the look of heavy natural timber without the excessive weight, we engineered these shelves from high-quality plywood with hidden internal brackets.
Artisanal Hand-Painted Finish After construction, the shelves were hand-painted using a multi-layer technique to replicate natural wood grain and knots. This bespoke finish provides the warmth of real wood with the structural stability of modern materials.
Lower Cabinetry & Integration We built and installed custom lower cabinets to provide hidden storage. Each piece was professionally primed and painted in a crisp white finish to provide a high-contrast, sophisticated look against the bold black accent wall.
Final Painting & Detailing The shiplap wall was finished in a deep, matte black, while the surrounding built-ins were meticulously detailed and sealed. The final result is a seamless, professional transformation that adds both value and style to the home.
